Somnia: A restorative evening of 20th and 21st century music for mezzo-soprano and piano – designed to soothe the darkest hours.
This programme explores our varied and fragile relationship with sleep, particularly in the wake of the pandemic and other challenging life experiences. In the recital we reflect on the possibility for these events to serve as a catalyst for personal transformation. Song cycles by Frederic Mompou and Ethel Smyth form the backbone of the programme, interspersed with a kaleidoscope of songs and poems from 20th and 21st century composers, and offers solace; a companion and an invitation for personal reflection.
